Chances are if you’re visiting a website called “HorrorSexy”, you’re a fan of horror. Chances also are that if  you’re into horror, you probably love monsters. I know I do. Here’s what I also know: no matter how much I love monsters, I’ll  never love monsters as much as Mike Mignola does. The research he does to bring us new and interesting (and based on old lore and legends) stories for his corner of the Dark Horse Comics universe is both exhausting to think about, and greatly appreciated.

This week is one of those weeks that only comes along a scant few times in a year. Not at all unlike Christmas when we were kids, when you walk into your comic shop this week, there awaiting you on the shelf, most likely backlit with a light so bright you can barely look at it, lest your face melt like the Nazi’s at the end of Raiders. Yes, kids, this week there’s a new issue of HELLBOY.

Now, I’m not going to lie to you and say that this week is the perfect jumping on point. Hellboy found out he’s the heir to King Arthur, plus he’s dead and stuck somewhere between nothingness and full on Hell, and that’s just what’s going on lately. If you’ve never dipped your toe in the Hellboy library, first what the hell is wrong with you, and second please do yourself a favor and start obsessively reading trade paperbacks until you’re all caught up, like us cool kids. You can do so relatively cheaply at In Stock Trades. If that’s not feasable, and you’re still interested in getting into the most important comic book creation since the 60’s, check the cliffs notes version at the Hellboy Wiki.

For those of us who are caught up, here’s the solicit for Hellboy In Hell #7 from the Dark Horse website:

The Hounds of Pluto’ Part 1 of 2. A sickness eats away at Hellboy. Though he’s dead, he risks losing himself and becoming one of the hollow phantoms that haunt Hell. A team of doctors promise a cure, but they need something from him first…

Not that other comics this week matter, but also be on the lookout for new issues of both of the first series from Famous Monters magazines American Gothic Press, Bornhome and Gunsuits, issue 2 of Godzilla in Hell, new Grindhouse, and new Where Monsters Dwell.
