It might initially seem like the “safe” pick to choose the new issue of The Walking Dead to spotlight for this week’s Hack Issues, but the truth of the matter is, the comic is actually pretty interesting right now. We are still in the aftermath of the massive All Out War arc, only it’s a year later because of an intentional jump in the story. I don’t want to go into any great detail about what’s going on, just in case some of you still haven’t read War, but I will say that I really liked the ending of it, and I’m enjoying the direction the book has taken since. I’m looking forward to issue #136.
The synopsis from the Image Comics website simply reads one word: Found.

For the first time in Hack Issues’ relatively short existence, there’s an honorable mention for book of the week, and it’s not exactly horror related. The Star Wars license makes it’s triumphant return to Marvel after a lengthy (and mostly wonderful) stint with Dark Horse comics. As if a new Star Wars comic, set in the original trilogy, wasn’t exciting enough, it’s got the blockbuster creative team of writer Jason Aaron (Scalped, Southern Bastards, lots of other great Marvel stuff) and artist John Cassady (Planetary, Astonishing X-Men). Aaron is a fantastic writer, especially when he’s doing non-superhero stuff, and Cassady might be a bit on the slow side with his art, but when it’s as gorgeous as the work he turns in, it’s always more than worth the wait. I’ll be digging into Star Wars #1 as soon as I finish The Walking Dead tomorrow.

One other quick note, Glenn Danzig fans may want to check out Verotik World #4, as he writes the comic.
