Okay, does everyone have the internet equivalent of their ’71 Cuda ready? The new vinyl release of the much sought after Phantasm score goes on sale tomorrow from Mondo and Death Waltz. This was recently released at a small screening of Phantasm in Texas as well as Texas Frightmare Weekend where a great friend picked me up both variants. I can assure you that they are fantastic in quality and that both color versions are impressive (marble and black and red). They are thick at 180 grams, the cover art is actually more impressive in person.
Composer Myrow also scored Soylent Green and What’s Up, Hideous Sun Demon (a cut up flick of the original Hideous Sun Demon movie with hokey liberties taken) in additional a host of other works.
From Mondo/Death Waltz:
Phantasm Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP. Music by Fred Myrow & Malcolm Seagrave. Artwork by Phantom City Creative. Liner notes by director Don Coscarelli. Pressed on 180 Gram Morningside Mausoleum Marble Vinyl (Limited to 500 Copies) and 180 Gram Through The Portal Red & Black Swirl Vinyl. $25
But that’s only half the awesome!
From across the pond, Death Waltz is releasing the Absurd soundtrack on vinyl! The classic Italian composer, Carlo Mario Cordio, is on display in all his gore scoring glory. I can assure you that this is a must have for the Italian Horror Wax nut (and that’s actually quite a few fanatics). We will have the full review once we receive the product in hand. Abusrd goes by a handful of other monikers including Horrible and Monster Hunter, so don’t get confused. It’s also worth noting that Maestro Cordio has scored such Italian Horror classics as Body Puzzle, Aenigma, Troll 2 and Pieces… which actually be included on the vinyl!
If that were not enough, the rumors have been confirmed. The damn cover will have… wait for it.. EMBOSSED INTESTINES! The release doesn’t state that, but it has been confirmed. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen such a collectible item. The DagoRed release of Flesh for Frankenstein on vinyl had some marvelous stitching embossed on the cover. It made for a truly magical experience when opening up the package after having missed that in the release notes. Death Waltz confirms it and is “caressing them right now”. Now THAT is horror at its sexiest.
